Orange and Lace - WIP 1&2

Now, here's another one completely out of my box. I'm taking a colored pencil class from Robin Enneking, a local artist here in Tyler and am thoroughly enjoying a new medium. This is the progress of my first colored pencil painting. I find it most difficult because I know exactly how I'd handle this in watercolor... some of the thought process is the same, but not a lot. Still, I can see where colored pencil can be addicting. I started out (bottom picture) laying in light shades of color. The background is a combination of four colors (you can see the layers). I still feel like I don't quite know what I'm doing yet.

Home Sweet Home

I finally finished this painting. It sat on my easel for two weeks without working on it at all. Once I started teaching art classes at Tyler Junior College (west campus) I became bogged down on developing the program and had little time in the studio. This week I decided I needed to just focus and get it completed. If I kept playing with it, I would completely overwork it to the point of no return. I am pleased with the result.

Home Sweet Home - WIP #7

I punched up the color in the main subject area and am working on layering the dark areas of the painting to the left. This is my least favorite part and usually where I get sloppy. But after a few layers I began liking the painting again. The chrome reflection on the top left was standing out too much so I layered washes to tone it down so it wasn't as noticeable. I want the focus to be the reflections covering the triangle mass of color. It is almost done. I'm still planning to add more darks and work on details.
