The Lawn Crew - work in progress

Here's the latest encarnation of The Lawn Crew. I actually don't know if that's going to be the title or not. After attacking the paper with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and bringing back the sign on the railway depot, I began to lay in more color, adding depth to the background and detailing the windows, porch railing and stairs. I also began to layer washes of color in the lawn and the cows. I still have a really long way to go on this piece. Now that I've entered college full-time, my painting opportunities have to be carved out and planned! Sorry its taken so long to get this post up.

The Lawn Crew (working title)

I haven't been around for a while. Most of the early fall was spent in Europe and then on a transatlantic crossing (that solitude was wonderful) immediately followed by serious illnesses with parents, so I have been neglectful. But here's a post for the new year.

I suppose I could call it at the uh-oh stage. I'm working on a piece for an exhibit and it is in the very early stages. I first worked on the sky wanting to create clouds, which I always found difficult in watercolor. I used Winsor Blue because I didn't want the sedimentation of pigments like ultramarine. I also worked on several areas of the background using earth colors mixed with Daniel Smith's Shadow Violet (my new favorite pigment). But when I got to the main building, I inadvertently painting right over a white sign that is hanging under the eaves with the new gamboge and permanent alizarin. Now I'm standing back trying to figure out which method I'll use to pull the white back into the painting, because the sign is a key feature. Right now the paintig is merely blocking in color and using underlayer washes.
