W.I.P. Plumeria
I am the kind of person who gets bored most easily. I have dozens of partially-painted watercolors to prove it. Maybe it is the A.D.D. that runs in my family, but for whatever reason, probably one-third of my paintings don't get completed. So I decided to try this painting a little differently. I normally go in straight with the subject that I'm excited about and by the time I'm half-way done with the parts that I'm not as interested in, I'm yawning. This time I will begin with the background and push it as far as I can push it before beginning on the flowers. This composition is a compilation of numerous photographs that I took at a friend's house. Her mom has a beautiful plumeria that has grown tall and sturdy, surprising for the cold winters of east Texas. I'd never lived in an area where I'd run across this stunning beauty before, and took many photographs intending to paint it immediately. Here I am several, years later, trying to get ready for an exhibition here in Corpus Christi themed "Tropical Florals". I recently saw a stunning plumeria posted by a fellow artist friend in another blog and remembered my photos. The plumeria, a Hawaiian flower, is perfect for this are an grows easiliy here. I may just have to buy one for my yard! The greens in this painting were mixed using cobalt blue and phthalo blue with new gambogue. I'm also trying out a gorgeous yellow-green by M. Graham called Azo Green
