There is the latest painting that I've been working on. I have been fascinated with my fascination with digital communication devices. I never leave home without my IPod or IPad these days. And it seems, from watching people around me, neither does anyone else! In this painting, the blue heron is fascinated as well. I still have a way to go on it, but it will be completed this week.
I began with the water, knowing that if the water didn't work, I can just chunk the entire composition! I masked out the sailboat masts and mast reflections then began laying cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, and peacock. I wanted blues that were non-staining or moderately staining as I would be lifting the boat reflections.
After getting shapes lifted, cleaned up, and several layers of varying blues in for the water movement, I then lifted the masking fluid and begain negative painting deeper water reflections around the "lacework" of the boats, and laying in the color of the boy texting on his phone. Stay tuned for the final stage.

This really turned out beautifully, Debbie. Thanks for posting the progression...the water is fabulous.
Thanks for sharing your techniques - its looking good.
This is absolutely gorgeous! AND it says so much. I love the comparison of the busyness of technology with the peacefulness of the harbor scene.
