Cabbage Greens W.I.P. #2
I may decide that I never want to eat cabbage again, by the time I finish with this. Seriously, its not that bad, but staring at this painting for so long, its beginning to look boring to me. Only through stepping away from it can I see variation. I still have a little ways to go on this painting. I want the holes in the cabbage leaves a bit more pronounced and I want to vary that diagonal shadow that is falling across the lower right leaves. The trick is to draw the eye to the cabbage head itself, while letting the eye dance around the ruffled edges of the leaves and bring the eye back to the center of interest. I'm trying to add movement with light and shadow, yet still having the outer leaves more muted, while the cabbage head is warmer and fresher. The last bit I will do is give more depth to the thickness of some of the veins closest to the cabbage head, and add detail to the head itself. I will post the finished product later this week.

I love this! It's coming along beautifully :)
Beautiful work, Debbie!
I enjoy seeing your progression on this piece. Many agree painting with green can get tricky. However, this peice is fanastic and I love seeing all the warms, cools and touches of blues. Can't wait to see the finished painting!
