MIXED GREENS
22"x15" Transparent Watercolor
I decided to title this "Mixed Greens" because the painting was done to showcase how one can mixed their greens rather than buying tons of pre-mixed tubes of greens and using them directly. Although I did use some greens (like MG Azo and DS Undersea), I mixed them with phthalo blue and ultramarine blue, as well as new gamboge... for a more cohesive family of greens. Azo makes a fabulous, bright green when mixed with phthalo... and Undersea adds that dark, granular hue when trying to mix a dark green. Of course my "black" standby (Permanent Alizarin and Phthalo Green RS) is also a good mixture to darken your mixed greens. Still, I think I achieved a wide variety of greens using a limited palette. Pops of warm greens were used in the cooler areas and hits of cool greens were added in the warmer areas for balance.

This is stunning!! Was interesting seeing the phases.
This is stunning Debbie! Green is such a hard color to use without it being unreal looking. You've created beautiful nuances of the color and the result is fantastic. Thank you for sharing your color mixes.
I love Daniel Smith's Undersea Green and found I could approximate it with Marine Blue (Holbein) and Quinacridone Gold. Your mixed greens are exciting and harmonious at the same time. Wonderful!
