Painting Glass and Crystal - Chicago area workshop June 9-11, 2011

I'm in the process of working on the composition that I've selected for the Chicago area workshop that I'm teaching in Oak Park, IL. in two weeks. I have a feeling the students may groan as this composition looks very complicated. Actually, the toughest part of this composition will be the reflection on the table, so I will have them work on that area first. The rest of it is easier than it looks!  I've painted glass many years ago, having gone through a period where I'd set up colored glass in a window and let the sunlight pass through. I haven't done that in a number of years. Watercolorist Paul Jackson first turned me on to painting glass over a half dozen years ago.  This setup features a leaded glass bowl I borrowed from a friend, Stephanie Wenzler, here in Corpus Christi. I brought two of my pieces of hand blown Venetian glass and went to her house and spent the day on Monday doing a photo shoot of probably a hundred photos. Finally we went outside on her porch in direct sunlight and glorious things happened! Look out, Oak Park... we'll be dancing in color on June 9!
