I've pushed this painting a little farther. One can see that I'm finally adding darker values in the Iris. Remember, I first began the petals by painting the dark shapes in a light value as a "place-holder" for later. Now its time to punch stronger color. I tend to paint while weighing how the values are working, and what needs to move from a flat shape to a more dimensional shape, constantly adjusting. Yes, this takes longer than those that paint fast and loose, but it is the process of painting that I enjoy much more than the finished product. I'm in no hurry to end that enjoyment. Of course, first thing in the morning I begin carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand, so this will have to wait a few days until I'm in the mood to paint again. In two weeks I have surgery on the right and I'll need to take a break.
