Iris of Lavenders

I told myself I wasn't going to start another painting before my surgery scheduled this Wednesday. But, alas, I couldn't help myself, even though I won't be able to finish this before the next surgery stops my use of my dominant hand. These irises were particularly lovely. I always start painting on an area of my composition that draws my attention. In this case today, the lovely papery shell that encased the iris was most interesting to me. And I also love the shape of the spent iris... how it folds into itself as if reaching for something deep within. As I usually do when painting flowers, I "tip-toe" into my painting... edging ever so softly as if I hold the delicate flower itself. It is a nice change from the weeks of painting still life and glass, where the cold, hard surface urges me to paint bolder. Now, off to check mail, which I'm behind on!
